Equal Rights - Argument free essay sample
Equal Rights Abortion is not a decision to be taken lightly. It is not a decision that the mother should make on her on either. Abortion should be a mutual decision between both parents. It should only be the motherââ¬â¢s choice if the father is not willing to care for the baby. It takes both a man and woman to create a child; therefor it should take both a man and a woman to make the decision to abort their child. After all a child is no more the motherââ¬â¢s than it is the fatherââ¬â¢s. When a woman makes the decision to keep the child, she expects financial support and help raising the child from the childââ¬â¢s father; therefore, she should ask for the fatherââ¬â¢s opinion when it comes to abortion, because the father could want to raise the baby on his own. Fathers are responsible for their children as much as mothers. When a woman seeks an abortion she should be required to give the identity of the father. Before she is able to have the abortion, she should obtain his written authorization. If the father chooses not to abort the child, then the mother should honor his decision and think of an alternate decision. The mother can always give the child to the father after birth. If the mother claims the father is unknown, unavailable, or incapable of providing consent then the mother should get a legal document proving such. If an abortion is performed without the fatherââ¬â¢s consent, then he should have the right to impose a lawsuit on the mother of his child. No father should have his child taken away from him. The only cases where I believe that right can be taken are when a woman has been raped, or if the motherââ¬â¢s health is at risk. If a mother has valid medical evidence that the pregnancy would be a danger to her health then that evidence should override a fatherââ¬â¢s decision to have the baby. Women should not be forced to take unnecessary health risks with her own life. If the mother and the fetus are both perfectly healthy then there is no reason to not proceed with the pregnancy if it is the fatherââ¬â¢s wish. Women may argue that it is their body and their decision, but if they were more careful with their body then they would not be in this position. The Father should have a say in abortion because it is his child too. Any decent parent who loves their children will fight for them. So a father should be able to fight for the right that his child exists. A mother can end a pregnancy on her own, or have a baby on her own. A father can do neither. Since they are both equal in creating this baby, why canââ¬â¢t they both have the same right to terminate the pregnancy? A father cannot single handedly decide to end a pregnancy, so the mother shouldnââ¬â¢t be able to either. The father is simply fighting for his right to raise a son or daughter. If a mother makes a decision to have a baby on her own, and the father is capable of providing, he is required to pay child support. If a father makes the decision to keep a baby and raise it own his own, than after the birth the mother, if capable, should have to pay child support as well. The father should however have to pay for all the motherââ¬â¢s medical bills and all of the things needed throughout the pregnancy such as vitamins, maternity clothes, and doctor visits. I think this is fair because the father does not have to go through what a mother does during pregnancy. I believe that if and only if the father is keeping the mother from aborting. Parents are equal and they should have equal rights in making the decision on keeping their children or aborting. A childââ¬â¢s life is precious. Sometimes it is more precious to one parent than it is the other. I have seen many examples of devastation from abortion in my home town. One specifically that relates to my paper happened at my very own high school. A girl in the grade above me found out she was pregnant her senior year. She was dating a guy that was a good bit older than her. He was a successful farmer in his twenties, and he offered to raise the child with the help of his family. She refused to keep the baby because she would be kicked out of her private school and would not be able to enjoy her senior year. The guy and his family were helpless because they had no say in the decision of this young woman. The guy was heartbroken because his sweet babyââ¬â¢s life was taken from him. He desperately wanted to keep it, and he offered to raise it without any financial support from the mother. She still said no because she selfishly picked her fun over the life of this child. She could have easily gone to a public school, and the father could have raised this child after birth. Her mind was made up, and the father never had the chance to meet his baby. A father is a parent just like a mother is a parent. A father is capable of caring for a child alone just like a mother is. A father should be able to care for his child if he wishes. Abortion is a huge decision that should be a mutual agreement between both mother and father before it can happen. If father makes the decision to keep his child, then he should take the responsibility in raising it. Children are precious gifts that should not be taken away from any parent, man or woman.
